Who Runs This Site
RetireWellCalc is an independent financial education project created to make retirement planning accessible to everyone, regardless of financial background. We are not affiliated with any financial institution, brokerage, or advisory firm. No one here earns commissions, manages money, or has a financial interest in any product or service you might choose.
RetireWellCalc was founded by accredited investors who got tired of retirement planning tools that were either too simple to be useful or locked behind brokerage accounts and advisor relationships. The math isn't complicated. The jargon is the only barrier, and we're here to remove it.
Our Mission
Retirement planning shouldn't require a finance degree or a $300/hour advisor just to understand the basics. RetireWellCalc is built on a simple belief: if you can see your numbers clearly, you make better decisions.
Our free calculator shows you your projected retirement balance, your funding gap, and what you'd need to change to get on track — in under 60 seconds, with no signup required. Our guides are written in plain English. No jargon without explanation. No scare tactics. No upsells.
Editorial Standards
We hold ourselves to a high standard of accuracy and transparency, especially given that retirement planning is a YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) topic where mistakes matter.
- We cite authoritative sources on all factual claims — IRS publications, SSA data, peer-reviewed financial research, and data from major institutions like Fidelity, Vanguard, and the BLS.
- We update our content regularly. Each guide carries a "Last reviewed" date so you can see when we last verified the information.
- We are committed to accuracy. If you spot an error or outdated figure, we want to know and will correct it promptly.
- Our calculator assumptions are fully documented. We don't hide the math. See our Methodology page for every default value, its source, the formula used, and the limitations you need to know.
- We separate editorial from advertising. Ads and affiliate relationships (described below) never influence what we write, what we recommend, or how our calculator is configured.
What You'll Find Here
- Free Retirement Calculator — Simple and advanced modes. Covers savings, contributions, inflation, Social Security, life expectancy, and year-by-year projections. Everything runs in your browser; we never see your numbers.
- Plain-English Guides — In-depth guides covering everything from retirement account basics to Medicare, FIRE, withdrawal strategies, and how inflation erodes purchasing power over time.
- Methodology — Full documentation of the calculator's assumptions, formulas, data sources, and limitations.
How We Keep the Lights On
RetireWellCalc is free to use — no accounts, no paywalls, no subscriptions. We keep it that way through two revenue streams, and we want to be upfront about both:
- Display advertising: You may see ads served by third-party ad networks (such as Google AdSense). These ads are selected automatically based on the content of the page and/or your browsing history. We do not hand-pick advertisers, and the presence of an ad is not an endorsement. See our Privacy Policy for how ad networks may use cookies.
- Affiliate links: Occasionally we may link to products or services using affiliate links, which means we earn a small commission if you click and make a purchase. We only link to things we believe are genuinely useful. Affiliate status never changes what we write or how we rate things.
Neither of these revenue streams gives any company influence over our editorial content or our calculator's assumptions. Our data and recommendations follow the evidence, not our advertisers.
How to Get Started
Not sure where to begin? Here's a quick path:
- Run the calculator to find your retirement target and see where you stand today.
- Read Retirement Planning Basics if you're newer to the topic.
- Dive into whichever guide matches your biggest question — Social Security timing, 401k vs. Roth, FIRE, or healthcare costs.
- When you're ready to go deeper, consult a fee-only fiduciary financial advisor. The difference between a fiduciary (legally required to act in your interest) and a non-fiduciary is significant — knowing your numbers beforehand makes that conversation far more productive.
🧮 Start With the Calculator
Know your number before anything else. It takes 60 seconds and nothing gets saved or shared.

Nothing on this site is financial advice. RetireWellCalc provides calculators, educational content, and general information for informational purposes only. All tools and content are provided "as is" with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose.
Retirement projections involve assumptions about future investment returns, inflation, and life expectancy that may not reflect actual outcomes. Past market performance does not guarantee future results. Individual circumstances vary widely.
Always consult a qualified, licensed financial advisor, tax professional, or estate planning attorney before making significant financial decisions. A fee-only fiduciary advisor is generally the gold standard — they are legally obligated to act in your interest and don't earn commissions for recommending products.
